Universal Medicine Team

Founders:

Gagandeep Sachdeva:
I was born in India and moved to Northampton at a young age. I am studying Medicine at the University of Birmingham. Outside of my studies, I enjoy badminton and table tennis and have competed in regional as well as national tournaments. We decided to create this blog to further explore what interested us in science and this platform was the perfect way to share our passion. Crucially, it also provided the opportunity to inspire others into academia and raise awareness of current avenues of scientific research.

Satbachan Bassan: Hi my name is Sab and I’m from Northampton. I am a Chemical Engineering student at Aston University. I currently represent the university with their football and train as well as play up to 3 times a week. Football and sports have always been close to my education. I got into writing the blog as I was very intrigued by new and old articles based around science and wanted to write pieces on some of my favourite topics. With writing the blog I found that it was engaging me more with my academic studies and enhanced my knowledge on the researched topics. With my current degree, I have found that some of the readings are very demanding and require a lot of attention to detail and so, Universal Medicine has aided me to comfortably adapt to these readings.

Chris Morgan: I am born and bred in Northampton. I am studying for a Masters in Chemical Engineering at Loughborough University. Outside of my studies, I train in athletics, specialising in hurdles which is especially cool at Loughborough as I am surrounded by and training with international athletes. I started writing for the blog as it was a nice opportunity to do more research on interesting topics.

Adil Rahman: I was born in Northampton and I am studying Dentistry. Outside of studies, I play football in the university league. Moreover, I play snooker and have been coached for many years by a WPBSA snooker coach- I regularly enter snooker tournaments. I started writing for the blog to enable me to research topics of interest and share my findings along the way.

Core Team:
Gagandeep Sachdeva: core team lead and co-founder of Universal Medicine.

Matthew Downes: I am a Mathematics student at Leeds University and communications lead for the blog. I joined the blog to help educate others on leading issues within the scientific field and improve my own understanding of the forefront of medical research.

Piollo Cabada: I’m a medical student at the University of Birmingham, and writer and maintenance rep for our blog. As broad as medicine is, there's so much more to learn than what is covered in the curriculum. I also enjoy learning about the little things I see in day-to-day life. I would like to use this blog as a way to explore the more unorthodox lessons the world can teach us, hopefully bringing you along for the ride.

Prashan Balendran: I’m a medical student from the University of Birmingham with a keen interest in writing. I am a writer, editor, and recruitment representative for the blog. Having previously been a writer and editor for a political blog, I’m excited to offer my experience to the team and get back into writing some interesting pieces for you all to read! I joined Universal Medicine to discuss topics within medicine that we wouldn’t usually have the opportunity to explore in-depth within the course, as well as broadening both my own and your knowledge of the areas of medicine we are not familiar with.

Somya Sharma: I’m a medical student at the University of Birmingham, and one of the writers and graphics representatives for the blog. I got involved with Universal Medicine to explore exciting and emerging topics within the field of medicine. Now, I look forward to building up a platform where such knowledge can be shared with my peers in a fun, interactive, and accessible way.

Vicale Alfanti: I am a medical student and one of the writers and editors for the blog. I am originally from Northampton and studying in Leicester. My experience writing for the blog has allowed me to delve into the many areas of medicine and consider intricacies of different medical specialties. I have learned to appreciate both the incredible advancements made in recent years but also how medicine must still evolve to ensure all can have a good quality of life. I hope you enjoy reading our posts!
